Olaudah Equiano

Oladuah Equiano was a large part in history because he helped to ban the Slave trade in America. Equiano and his sister were captured in his home by two men and a women, and sold into slavery. After a few months of being held captive Equiano was separated from his sister and was put on a ship and sent to Barbados to be sold into slavery. When the ship arrived, there was no one who wanted to buy Equiano, so he was sent to Virginia. In Virginia he worked as a slave for seven years until he was able to buy his freedom and move to London and write his book.

Oladuah Equiano is most like the super human Mike Peterson from Marvels: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. They are similar because in the show Peterson is abducted by The Centipede Group, and is forced into Project Centipede to become a centipede “soldier”. The Centipede soldiers are treated like slaves and are forced to do whatever the leaders want the to do or they are killed. Later in the show Peterson helps to destroy Project Centipede, and helping to free all of the current”soldiers” Equiano and Peterson are similar in the way that they were both captured and forced to work for someone against their will. They both also helped to get rid of a growing problem, that killed a lot of men and women. These men were both very brave in the sense that they helped to achieve something for the greater good of the people.

  1. I liked your comparison between Olaudah Equiano and Mike Peterson. It seems as if they went through the almost exact situation as each other thanks to your explanation. I also liked how you told us about Equiano first then bring in Peterson, instead of bringing them both up in the first paragraph. Great job Hali!

  2. My favorite line in this article is, “These men were both very brave in the sense that they helped to achieve something for the greater good of the people.” I like this quote because it shows both their bravery and their goof intentions in one sentence. Both men were heroes in their own way and I think you did a great job of pointing that out! ~Mikayla VanHoose
